Whoever sends me the best odometer will see it used as my signature design. In addition to not sending them an autographed photo of me, I will heap praise upon them daily. All six of my regular readers will know just how grateful that I am. As my audience grows, so will the reputation of the magic odometer!
Here's what I need: a cool odometer photo in a compressed jpeg. It needs to be glare-free and close up. While I am partial to the old mechanical odometers, I could be tempted by a gorgeous digital one in a stylish gauge grouping. The main thing is that the odometer has to be clearly visible. The numbers in the odometer have to be readable.
Surprisingly, lots of people are into odometers. Our erstwhile politician is not, definitely not, the only government person into odos. I've included some links on odometers after this paragraph. My intention is not to obsess on odometers or car trivia. This is a Seinfeld-type blog, it is about "noting" in particular. It is going to be provocative thoughts about everything that interests me. Since my interests are extraordinarily broad, you won't know what to expect. You will begin to see life through my eyes which is sort of like taking a trip to a foreign country with a dictionary missing half the verbs. We will strive to explore anything important to the human plane, but often without the obfuscation of any "jargon."
TRUTH IN ODOs
When I was a teenager, many of my friends drove their parent's cars backwards quite frequently. They did this to stave off punishment by their father's who monitored how far they had driven by checking the odometer religiously. For some reason, despite the size of my city of origin, the fathers were a little compulsive about their cars. I have not confirmed the rumor that started all the backing up, but I can explain it. In the old days, odometers were mostly mechanical. There was a relationship between the car's gears and the forward turning of the odo. Some of my buddies told me that driving backward would reverse the odometer and take mileage "off." I sort of did not buy this, because busts of car dealers for odometer fraud were common. If there was any group that lacked the time to drive cars backwards to strip miles off, it was used car dealers. I figured that there were more efficient methods for reducing the used car mileage, so I googled odometers.
Messing with an odometer is illegal regardless of the method.
